Groceries...

Until recently I used to do my grocery shopping much different. I used to shop for a month at a time. I of course would go back to get eggs and milk as needed, but I would shop for that period of time and it worked well for us. The longest I have gone on one grocery trip was a little over 2 months. I would spend the lump sum of money (usually around 150.00) and I stretched it out. Looking back I am not exactly sure how I did this the way I did. One thing I used to do and need to start doing agian was to get a whole chicken and cook it all day in the crock pot with a little water and a chopped onion, occasionally I would cook it with a can of beer which gives it a nice flavor. Then I would take all the meat off of it and put it in the fridge. This allowed for multiple meals that used cooked chicken. It was a lot cheaper than buying chicken breasts and it was really good. Like I have posted before, I love to grocery shop! It is my relaxation. I know many of you hate it and it is a chore. I like to see how creative I can be with the things I buy and how I can stretch my budget. Shopping for a months time only allowed me to go once a month which I didn't like. I now go on a weekly or every other week basis, but I am also grocery shopping in a much different way with coupons (I didn't use them in the past like I do now.) I have thought about trying to double my budget and do two weeks at a time, I don't know I will have to play around with it.

Has anyone used the website here?? I am just wondering if anyone has been able to stretch their budget or meals using this website? If you don't know what I am talking about, in an earlier post I had mentioned the website. You go on and add all the ingredients you have and it will give suggestions to see if you have other ingredients and list all the recipes you can make with what you have. It will also tell you that if you had "this item" you could make something else. It is pretty helpful. Let me know if you have used it and how it worked or didn't work for you.

The website link came from moneysavingmom here
