Ok.. I have been trying to figure out how much it saves for me to make my own baby food for Benjamin. As I have been going grocery shopping this week I have looked to see the cost of Gerber Baby Food and on average unless it is on sale it costs $1.29 for two servings. Right now Benjamin is eating 2 to 3 servings a day (usually 3) which would be 21 containers of baby food and you have to buy 22 because they come in containers of 2. So that is around $14.19 a week in baby food. This is a cost of $0.65 cents per meal.Brad got a 5 lb. bag of carrots for me and it was aprox. $5.00 and it made enough to feed Benjamin 20 meals ( I don't water down my baby food but if I did I could stretch it a lot more.) So you are looking at a cost of $0.25 cents per meal! I don't think you can beat that! (I also used some of the carrots in my beef stew)
This is a savings of $9.19 per week. Granted I know Benjamin is not just going to be eating Carrots the rest of his life. I will work out the cost as I make other foods.
It is cheaper to make your own baby carrots.

$1.29 seems high for the gerber. Are you buying the organic? I've never paid more than $1.15 (not on sale) but generally I can find them on sale for $1.00 and I always have a coupon for $1.00 off every 5. Gerber is great about coupons. It's still probably cheaper to make it. My friend Carie makes all of her baby food though and loves doing it. It doesn't time at all.
