Last fall Caleb went to the ENT because I noticed he would hold his breath for extended time when he was sleeping (apnea) and he was also waking up a lot at night. We came to the conclusion that he would need to have his andenoids removed and that they were probably enlarged.
Yesterday we went for pre-op at the ENT and found out we would take out his adenoids but also place tubes in his ears due to him still having fluid from an ear infection and the fact that he would probably end up with many ear infections while he was healing from surgery.
On our way to the hospital for his surgery. He was playing his video game and holding his penguin and doggie.Reading Field and Stream magazine with daddy while we wait.
Getting things going and making sure all papers were signed etc.
All changed and ready to go back for surgery.
Playing a game with daddys watch
Rubbing noses
After he came out of surgery we were on our way back to recovery where he was waking up and we could hear him screaming outside of the door. The whole room was filled with his screaming. They prepared us for this as children often come out of surgery and are very confused and feel weird etc. He had an iv in his arm and kept trying to pull it out. It was uncomfortable and he just wanted it out. It took about 15 to 20 minutes and a shot or morphine to get him to calm down. Finally we got to leave to come home which Caleb was happy about. In the car he was pretty talkative but still out of it. He told us he wanted to go to the pet store and buy fish so we could chop them up and all eat them for dinner. I think he was a bit strung out on the anesthesia and pain medication.Once we got home we were cuddling on the couch and he was almost asleep and all the sudden he popped up and said "my lollipop" - he was referring to the lollipop nanna got for him for after his surgery and because he LOVES lollipops. He took about 3 licks and laid it down on the couch cushion.
After that he was out like a light and snoring very loud. He slept for a few hours and now is laying on the couch watching a movie. It takes a lot for Caleb to watch a movie because usually he can't sit still for more than a few seconds so it is kind of nice to just be sitting on the couch with him and cuddling.
